I can't stress enough how impressed we were with our crew on our three-day charter. Emma was the most amazingly competent skipper; but not only that, she was so thoughtful, taking into account the weather so that we could be tucked away safely for calm, comfortable nights. Additionally, she was expert in gauging the weather and tides for visiting the various estuaries we would love to see that could only be accessed at high tide. She made sure we could spend a good amount of time with the seals which was a top priority for us. Furthermore, she made sure that she could drop our various members off for hikes on parts of the Abel Tasman Track that some of us wanted to hike most of. She was careful to ensure that the less energetic could, at the same time, walk a beach or swim or walk part of the trail to meet the more serious hikers. Moreover, she prepared delicious feast after feast for us. We will remember so fondly drinks and snacks on the top deck, and long chatty, friendly evenings spent with our hosts over a delicious dinner.
And then on to AJ. She is a treasure, too, - always cheerful; nothing was too much trouble for her. She is just SO knowledgeable about all the plants and trees on the walks, as well as the Māori legends and wisdom related to those plants and to the birds we came across. She has not only an enormous depth and breadth of knowledge that we could tap into, she had the enthusiasm to impart that knowledge such that we felt she was enjoying the discussion as much as we were. That is the gift she gave us – she made us feel special to her on our learning journey and all that she introduced us to.
